Rode the ODT and used the fork bags to make a beer run in Agnew.

It's finally starting to feel warmer. I put away all the winter gloves and now need to wash up and put away the fall/winter jerseys.

Checked the weather (both in person and online) at the start and got a "feels like 45" that seemed reasonable given stiff breeze. It gradually warmed up and I was slightly overdressed for the final 5 miles or so.

It was trying to be warm today but just didn't quite make it there. Still, a comfortable ride w/o wind and w/o traffic, so no complaints.

There was a hint of warmth in the air today which made things a bit more pleasant than a lot of recent rides. It's looking like tomorrow will be the first ride of the year with short-fingered gloves (no Vulgarian here).

Even though it's mid-April there was just no warmth in the air today. By Monday it's forecast to be in the mid-60s, so that will be a nice change.

Felt strangely good after shoveling gravel for 4.5 hours on a trail project. Maybe it was the warmer weather and lack of wind.

A tough go into the strong wind. Speed was really down today. Weather report said 43F but feels like 36.

Light rain at the start but it stopped and almost cleared out. Finally back on local gravel after a long pause.

A stiff wind changed my plans and I had to go into a wind-avoidance route.

Went to Port Townsend and rode with A. First time in about 6 weeks I think. The new section is amazing. Switchbacks up the powerlines like something from a Swiss or Norwegian road system. Then some rolling hills. 50mm tires really helped on the muddy sections. We missed out on the Chimacum Farmers' Market bakery...not open yet for the season.

Decided to do the morning errands via bike due to the high cost of fuel. Where I live in Washington state unleaded is about $5.50/gal and diesel is running over $7/gal. We have some very high fuel taxes to fund transportation and highway projects because we have no state income tax (sort of).

Finally rode the full length of 7 dips and got the big hills. 35 mph on the final one. Saw an oddity along the way. A knucklehead driving a lifted Japanese truck with a giant Confederate battle flag flying. Since I know that Japanese culture values fitting in, the mixed message I got from the driver was "I'm a rebel conformist".

Warmest day of the year so far...in the low 60s. Rode after a morning hike.

Less wind today and some nice sunshine. Felt pretty good for a late start.

Sunny and warm(ish) feeling at the start but that quickly went away and I was left to ride feeling almost underdressed for the temps. Perhaps one day later this month I can shed the long-fingered gloves for a good long while.

Super windy out of the south-southeast. Had to plan my route according to where I got the most shelter.

Made it to my goal of 2000 miles by the end of March.

Finally a little warmth back from the sun. My tulips looked like they were shivering yesterday.

Waited till 5:00 PM to avoid the rain. At the end it rained and hailed on me.

Started at 55 F but it dropped 20 degrees from 4 to 6.

Got a late start due to lots of morning errands/projects. Felt surprisingly good for as tired as I seemed.

Some sun was visible but there was really not even a suggestion or a hint of warmth.

I remembered to be thankful that now in retirement I can ride in the light all the time. So many years of dark mornings and evenings in my past.

Spent a lot of time struggling into the usual afternoon wind.

Another strong afternoon wind out of the SW made travel west a challenge but heading east was easy.

It was a long wait for the rains to be over today. Finally got out in the late afternoon and crossed paths with the wife, who was out riding too. Rode together for a few and then parted ways due to speed incompatibility.

First ride of the season with just a jersey and a wind vest and was still too warm.

Had to return home after 10 miles to get a lighter jacket, gloves, and cap. Way too warm with tropical air pushing in from Hawaii.

Avoided the rain again. I'm staying off the gravel roads and the trails because it has been, and continues to be so wet that it causes a lot more drivetrain maintenance.

Having some upper back muscle spasms, but fortunately not while riding. My lifting room is a construction mess right now.

Sat out a couple of days of endless rains. More in the forecast but hoping I can find some lulls in the oncoming squalls.

Snowing in the mountains today. About 40 F down at sea level.

Went early to get ahead of the coming atmospheric river. Wed thru Friday is looking dismal in the forecast.

Had to go early to have time for PM appointments. No wind this morning was a nice change of pace after yesterday.

Steady 18 mph wind coming from the SW, gusting higher at times. In the unprotected flats when I turned perpendicular to the wind it would affect steering a bit. Staying in the hedgerows when I could helped a bit. It's best to stay away from the windy side of forested roads due to branches coming down.

Today was Tour de Dung race day in the neighborhood. I had to avoid the racers and weave through back roads to get out of and back into my area.

I think today was the true first day of spring. 56 F and lots of sunshine that felt great. I need to start digging out some spring cycling clothing.

Headed out west and rode with A. Parked at the Sol Duc road parking area and headed west on the trail. Went almost 2/3 of the way down Mary Clark. Beautiful day with sunny skies, about 50 F, and minimal winds. It could have been April instead of February.

Rolled over 1300 miles for the year. Goal is 6614 to hit an average of 7500/yr for the past 20 years.

Another decent day. Lots of things happening.

Rained lightly most of the way. I had two dry minutes in sunshine.

Somehow this atmospheric river is missing the north coast of the Olympic Peninsula. Lucky for me.

What a difference a day makes. Sat out yesterday's high winds and today had some sun with actual warmth to it. Lots of folks out mowing their grass. Had fresh legs from the day of rest too.

Cold, but not quite as chilly as yesterday. An pair of arm warmers under the jersey did the trick. Toes ok today.

Fingers crossed that today is the coldest day of winter and that it is all warming up from this point forward.

Not bad at all for all the talk about possible incoming snow. Felt pretty good.

Another day moving more briskly due to the temps. Felt pretty good today...no shoulder or leg pain.

My fastest ride of the year just before the coldest weather of winter arrives. It's been a warm winter and the next five days look to be the last gasp as trees and flowers are already blooming. Fingers crossed to avoid any lowland snow.

The breeze and sunshine dried up yesterday's rain. Nice ride except for heading into the wind. Rolled over 1000 miles for the year.

First 24 miles were dry but then I got caught out in a rain squall.

Got a late start and rode until dark (about 5:45). Sore upper body from trail work but the legs were pretty good.

A day off made a big difference in how my legs felt today. Could have gone longer but was running out of light after a busy morning.

Legs a bit tired today but I was taking it easy anyway. Rolled over 900 miles for the year.

Felt pretty good this morning in spite of riding after lifting.

Waited out the AM showers and didn't start until 3:00. Stayed dry but it was very dark and threatening at times.

Tried to let the fog burn off but it lasted all day. Headed south towards the mountains and it lightened up a little bit, almost enough to let me see my shadow, but not quite.

One of those rides where your mind just wanders and every so often you look up and see where you are and how far you've come.

Super overcast and misty which suited me just fine after having my eyes dilated this morning.

Calm, dry, and lukewarm outside so I decided to stay off the hills and see what I could do for speed with these 50mm wide tires on a drop bar gravel bike. 14.4 avg which I thought was not too bad for that wide a tire.

Thought I'd be more tired after that late January push to get to 700, but the legs felt ok today.

Moist is the key word for the day. A few drops of light rain in the first mile or so, then riding in a cloud. Need to anti-fog my eyewear again.

Even though I dressed down, it was way too warm for this time of year today. 54 degrees in January. I should have worn my spring/fall gloves. No need for a hat under the helmet. Flies are hatching and I saw wasps out.

Got a late start and rode till 5:15, just before full dark.

Every time I feel like my legs are tired and I'm just going to do a moderate, steady cadence, I get home and find my average speed is higher than normal. So what do I know? Tried to rain on me lightly on and off several times but didn't get wet. Yet.

Today I rolled over 144,000 miles since the summer of 2006. Goal is to make it to 150K by the end of 2026.

Since I wore clear eyewear the sun decided to come out 15 seconds into my ride. It went away pretty soon though, so all was good. Last cold day before the rains and warmer temps return.

Felt really slow and had tired legs but when all was done my average speed was up about 0.5 mph. Not quite sure how that happened. Maybe due to longer straight stretches of road where I didn't have to be cautious about the frost in the turns.

This is the coldest it has been so far this winter on the North Olympic Peninsula. Daytime high of 41 and overnight low of 29 or so. Can't complain about that...until summer comes and everything is dry and burning because there were no winter rains or snows.

Waited out the morning frost again for some PM sunshine. 45 F again for about the 5th day in a row. No complaints though as it is dry and calm.

Due to scheduling conflicts I had to go early in the frost. Stayed out on the shoreline for the most part because it didn't freeze.

Same weather pattern for the past 5 days or so. Frosty mornings and sunny afternoons. 45 degrees for the ride with no wind.

A late afternoon ride on a sunny day with some warmth. Spent the morning up in the mountains doing trail work. At noon near 3500' of elevation, in the middle of January, it was t-shirt weather. Very low snow year so far.

Sunny and warmer again. The water in the Straits of Juan de Fuca was like glass and Mt. Baker loomed on the horizon full of snow. So warm though, in fact, that I have one tulip pushing through the ground in my front yard. Saw people mowing their lawns again on today's ride. I need to do that as well. It's not quite winter, not quite spring. Let's call it sprinter.

Sunshine today...so warm that I heard frog croaking yesterday and today. Seems a bit premature for their big wake up.

Got a late start today and the urgency of waning light helped me up my average speed. Thick fog all day long which kept fogging up the eyewear, even with anti-fog on them.

Stayed dry on wet roads but the wind was starting to rise at the finish. I'm enjoying using my Roam Elemnt to track miles and elevation. I'm always late adopter of the new. Stuck with tiny Cateye bike computers for years and the occasional Strava data.

I'm getting lucky with some rain breaks occurring during daylight hours. Looks like after today the rains clear out for a while and it will be unseasonably warm.

Looked like rain at the start but it held off and got some filtered sunlight. Glad I had the rain jacket on because it was a cold breeze. Less than 6400 to go to get to 150,000 miles in 20 years.

Felt cold at the start due to the humidity level, but some filtered sunlight came out and made things tolerable. Even though it's fairly flat where I live, I seem to be getting over 500 ft of elev gain every ride.

Forecast said no rain but I got drizzled on 3 times. Luckily just short bursts that were very light. It's been a "warm" winter so far, even though the freezing level is down to about 1500'. Here near the shoreline its been staying just above freezing so far. I hope it stays that way.

Stayed on the roads today as there is still some standing water on the dike and trail system and I am enjoying having a relatively clean drivetrain. No need to muck it up unless some really interesting ride comes to mind.

Blinding low altitude sun in the early morning. The route chose itself as I had to ride with my back to the sun. Glare off wet pavement was just too hard to see where I was going. This may be my only time this year in 1st place on the website but I'll still enjoy the brief moment.

Tried and failed to beat the rain. Last 4 miles was a little wet. Got the hat trick today...weight workout, trail work, then a late ride.

Tried to hit the mid-afternoon rays but that window closed fast and I got rain falling from clear blue skies instead.

Rains seems to be just hanging in the air but I beat it back home. Very humid and 45 F.

Did a bike cleaning and lubing last night and what a difference that made today. I resolve to do basic maintenance more often in 2026.
